Mortise Cabinet Hinges

A finely crafted and installed brass butt hinge is the mark of fine woodworking and craftsmanship. The process of mortising cabinet doors and furniture is hard work, a painstaking and time-consuming process. This is why some of the top manufacturers of custom cabinetry make inset cabinetry with Cliffside mortised cabinet hinges.

Cliffside's brass butt hinges are manufactured by European craftsmen to incredibly tight tolerances. This allows the cabinet maker to achieve the tightest inset reveal in the kitchen industry: a mere 1/16-inch. Our mortise cabinet hinges are extruded from hot brass and sliced down. This creates extra strength because the metal is forged together, rather than being compressed flat and having holes stamped out of them. It also wastes less material, creating an environmental savings over time.

Brass is the best quality material for butt hinges. While steel is, in some cases, stronger than brass, it is prone to wearing as the knuckles of the hinge grind together over time. This will cause a fine powder to drop from the hinges as the joints wear one another away. Brass, being a softer metal, does not have the abrasive qualities of steel and will not grind itself away, especially in a high-tolerance decorative hinge like those sold by Cliffside Industries.

Adjustability is another factor that sets Cliffside's mortising cabinet hinges apart from the competition. Because of the extrusion process used to manufacture the hinges, the holes of the hinge, and especially those that are machined out for adjustability, are much stronger and more refined than those in a stamped hinge. All styles of Cliffside hinges have 4-way adjustability built right in: once placed, they can be adjusted up or down, left or right. Most styles of our mortise cabinet hinges have four adjustable holes, allowing for maximum refinement in installation.
